TDS and ITR Filing Practical Skills for the Digital Tax Era
TDS & ITR Filing – Practical Skills for the Digital Tax Era | Surana College
Taxation is no longer confined to textbooks, calculations and examination halls.
In today's digital world, tax compliance has moved to online platforms, making digital tax literacy and practical knowledge increasingly important for students, educators and professionals. Recognizing this changing environment, the Department of Commerce & Management, Surana College, Peenya, organized an insightful and practice-oriented workshop on “TDS & ITR Filing – Practical Skills for the Digital Tax Era” on 17 August 2026 at the college auditorium.
Why Digital Tax Skills Matter
Imagine a student who has studied TDS, PAN, Advance Tax and Income Tax Returns in the classroom. Now imagine that same student confidently navigating the Income Tax e-Filing Portal, understanding the filing process and preparing tax-related documents. That is the gap between knowing and doing.
The workshop was designed precisely to bridge this gap by providing participants with practical exposure to TDS, ITR filing procedures, PAN, Advance Tax and the use of the Income Tax e-Filing Portal.
The emphasis was on developing the confidence and practical skills required for accurate tax compliance in an increasingly digital professional environment.
152 Participants. One Learning Experience.
The programme brought together 152 participants, comprising:
Faculty members and students from Bangalore University-affiliated colleges and other professional participants.
Faculty members of Surana College.
This diverse participation transformed the workshop into a vibrant platform for learning, interaction and knowledge sharing.
From “What is TDS?” to “How Do I File?”
One of the most valuable aspects of the workshop was its practical orientation. Participants were encouraged to look beyond definitions and understand how taxation works in an actual digital environment.
The learning journey focused on:
This practical approach helped participants connect academic concepts with the procedures they may encounter in professional and personal financial situations.
Learning from an Experienced Professional

He has also conducted corporate training programmes covering areas such as tax planning, wealth creation and investment awareness.
Real-world taxation beyond the textbook.
Questions That Turned into Learning
A workshop becomes truly meaningful when participants actively engage. Following the technical session, the platform was opened for an interactive Question & Answer session. Faculty members and students raised their questions, clarified doubts and interacted with the resource person. This provided participants with an opportunity to understand taxation from a practical perspective and address uncertainties related to tax procedures.
An Academic Highlight
The programme also featured the release of a textbook, coordinated by Dr. Ajay R, with the textbook being released by the resource person, Mr. CA Anil Bharadwaj. The initiative complemented the workshop's practical focus with an emphasis on academic learning and resource development.
What Did Participants Take Away?
The workshop was designed to move participants through a simple but powerful learning cycle:
UNDERSTAND
Build conceptual clarity about TDS, PAN, Advance Tax and ITR.
PRACTISE
Understand the practical procedures involved in tax filing.
APPLY
Connect taxation concepts with real-world requirements.
CONFIDENCE
Develop the confidence to handle digital tax procedures professionally.
The reported outcomes included understanding TDS and its importance, learning the practical ITR filing process through the e-Filing Portal, developing skills to prepare tax-related documents accurately, and improving digital tax-compliance skills.
Why Such Workshops Matter for Commerce & Management Students
Commerce & Management education is evolving. Today's Commerce & Management graduate needs more than examination-oriented knowledge. Students increasingly need opportunities to develop:
Workshops such as this create opportunities for students to experience how the concepts discussed in classrooms connect with the expectations of the professional world.
Teamwork Behind the Learning Experience
The successful conduct of the programme was supported by the coordinated efforts of the Department of Commerce & Management. The programme involved faculty members and team members handling event coordination, master of ceremony, guest profile presentation, textbook release, documentation, certificate preparation, hospitality, technical support, refreshments and other arrangements. The programme commenced with an invocation and welcome speech and concluded with the Vote of Thanks followed by the National Anthem.
Building Future-Ready Commerce Graduates
The changing business environment demands graduates who are not only knowledgeable, but also skilled, adaptable and digitally competent. Taxation provides an excellent example. A student may understand the theory of TDS and ITR, but practical exposure helps transform that theoretical understanding into a usable professional skill. This is why experiential learning, expert interaction and practical workshops are becoming increasingly important components of higher education.
Beyond a Workshop
The TDS & ITR Filing – Practical Skills for the Digital Tax Era workshop was more than a three-hour academic programme. It was an opportunity to connect:
